Today, I have a delicious recipe for you: crispy chicken tacos! They’re nothing like the taco kits you buy at the supermarket. You can easily make them with small tortilla wraps and they are sooo delicious!

Why this Recipe Works

You’re probably familiar with those ready to eat taco kits. They fall apart as soon as you take a bite. These tasty crispy chicken tacos are much better and easy to make with small tortillas. Success is guaranteed!

Crispy Chicken Tacos Recipe

These delicious tacos are easy to make in a frying pan. You may have seen them on TikTok. Here is my version of the viral TikTok recipe for them. I think they are absolutely delicious! They’re very different from my “regular” chicken wraps!

If you love crispy wraps, I highly recommend these tostadas or another famous TikTok recipe: Big Mac wraps. If you want to make your own wraps, I highly recommend my recipe.

Taco Ingredients

The ingredients for the tacos are simple and can easily be adapted to your preferences. See below for adjustments you can make.

  • Chicken: I use chicken breast, cut into small cubes. Alternatively, you can use chicken thigh fillet. This will make the tacos juicier.
  • Cheese: I use a mix of grated cheddar and mozzarella. You can use any grated cheese you like! I also regularly use grated mature cheese.
  • Tomato salsa: easy to make with my recipe and delicious served with the tacos. It’s also delicious with guacamole!
  • Spices: you can easily vary them, but I use garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and onion powder. Don’t like one of these spices? Then, replace it with something else. Want a little more spice? It’s also very tasty with a little chili powder.
  • Sauce: speaking of spice, I highly recommend chipotle mayonnaise as an extra dipping sauce!
  • Crispy tacoÅ›: For wraps, I use the smaller ones. This makes them easier to handle and fry.

How to Make Crispy Chicken Tacos

Marinate the chicken

Step 1: Marinate the chicken

In a small bowl, combine the chicken pieces with spices, pepper, salt, and a dash of oil. Stir well. Set it aside.

Fry the chicken

Step 2: Fry the chicken

Heat some oil in a frying pan and fry the chicken until it is golden brown and cooked through.

Add chicken to the tacos

Step 3: Add cheese and chicken to the wraps

Top the wraps with cheese and chicken, then fold them in half to form a half-moon shape. You can do this in the same pan.

Step 4: Fry until crispy

Fry the tacos on both sides until crispy. The cheese should be melted, and the outside should be golden brown.

Sure, just replace the chicken with a plant-based substitute.

How do I keep leftovers?

You can keep them in the fridge, to crisp them back up you can refry them in a dry pan.

What kind of cheese do I use?

Ingredients

8 wraps
Ingredients for the chicken:
  • 500 gram chicken breast (cut into small cubes)
  • ½ tbsp garlic powder
  • ½ tbsp onion powder
  • ½ tbsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tbsp cumin
Ingredients for the salsa:
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 small red onion
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro (finely chopped)
Ingredients for the wraps:
  • 8 small tortilla wraps
  • 100 gram shredded mozzarella
  • 100 gram shredded cheddar
  • Chipotle mayonnaise
  • Oil, pepper and salt

  • Frying pan

INSTRUCTIONS (how to make this recipe):

  • Place the chicken breast cubes in a large bowl and add the spices. Season with pepper, salt, and a dash of oil. Mix everything together and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, mix all the salsa ingredients and season with salt and pepper.
  • Put some of the chipotle mayonnaise in a small bowl. For a nice, creamy sauce, dilute it with water and lime juice from the other half of the lime.
  • Heat some oil in a large pan and fry the chicken for 10 to 15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • Then, heat a little oil in another pan and add a tortilla wrap. Sprinkle grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the tortilla and add some of the fried chicken breast.
  • When the wrap is golden brown on the bottom, use a spatula to lift one side and fold it over the other (see the photo above). Fry the taco until it is crispy, then remove it from the pan. Repeat until all the wraps and chicken breasts are used up.
  • Just before serving, spread tomato salsa and chipotle mayonnaise over the wraps. Serve immediately. Bon appétit!
