Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This Boursin cheese appetizer is one of my favorites because it is so simple but has so much flavor. That creamy center combined with the crispy coating is just irresistible. Serve it warm, preferably straight from the oven. That’s when it tastes best.

Boursin Cheese Appetizer

This crispy baked Boursin is a delicious alternative to more traditional party snacks. Instead of serving the usual appetizers, this gives you something a little different while still being a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Coating the Boursin in flour, egg, and panko creates a beautiful golden crust that contrasts perfectly with the soft, creamy herb cheese inside.

If you love cooking with Boursin, there are plenty of other ways to use it too. And if you’re putting together a party spread, this is definitely one to add to your appetizer board. If you love cheesy appetizers be sure to check out my Brie brûlée as well!

Recipe Ingredients

  • Boursin: You can use any flavor, although Garlic & Fine Herbs is my favorite for this recipe.
  • Panko breadcrumbs: Regular breadcrumbs will work too, although panko gives you the crispiest coating.
  • Parmesan cheese: You can substitute another flavorful hard cheese if you prefer.
  • Thyme: Oregano, Italian seasoning or rosemary are all good alternatives.
  • Honey: Maple syrup or agave syrup can also be used.
  • Red pepper flakes: Add as much or as little as you like, or leave them out completely.

How To Make Boursin Cheese Appetizer

  • Coat a whole round of Boursin first in flour, then beaten egg, and finally in a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and thyme.
  • Place the coated Boursin in a small oven-safe baking dish and bake until golden brown and crispy.
  • Finish with a drizzle of honey, some red pepper flakes and extra thyme if desired.

This crispy Boursin cheese appetizer is a perfect addition to a loaded appetizer board and is especially good for the holidays, although there’s really no reason to wait for a special occasion.

Snacks with boursin

Crispy Baked Boursin

The best part of this recipe is that crispy coating. Panko gives it plenty of crunch, Parmesan adds a delicious savory flavor, and thyme makes it even better.

Once baked, drizzle the Boursin with a little honey and sprinkle with red pepper flakes and some extra thyme. The combination of creamy, sweet, spicy, and crunchy is absolutely delicious.

Serve it as part of an appetizer board with sliced baguette, crackers, and anything else you love. I like adding grapes, bread, crackers, and a few sweeter bites as well. That sweet and savory combination makes the perfect party platter.

FAQ Boursin Cheese Appetizer

Can I prepare this crispy baked Boursin ahead of time?

Yes. You can coat the Boursin in flour, egg, and the panko mixture a few hours ahead of time and keep it covered in the refrigerator. Bake it just before serving so the outside stays crisp and the center is warm and creamy.

Can I use a different flavor of Boursin?

Absolutely. Garlic & Fine Herbs works especially well, but other Boursin flavors can be used too. Choose a flavor that pairs well with the honey and herbs you plan to serve with it.

Can I use regular breadcrumbs instead of panko?

Yes, but panko breadcrumbs give the Boursin a lighter, crunchier coating. Regular breadcrumbs will still work if that is what you have on hand.

How do I keep the Boursin from leaking while baking?

Make sure the cheese is completely coated with flour, egg, and panko, including the sides. A good, even coating helps keep the cheese contained as it softens in the oven. Also avoid overbaking it.

What should I serve with baked Boursin?

Sliced baguette, a delicious focaccia, crostini, crackers, and breadsticks are all great options. You can also add grapes, apple or pear slices, nuts, and other cheeses to turn it into a larger appetizer board. It would also be delicious served on these sourdough discard crackers.
