Sweet potato facts
It is a delicious, slightly sweet potato with a bright orange colour. There are also white and even purple sweet potatoes, and they are very common in Asia and South America, for example. Here are some more facts about the delicious sweet potato;
- Where does the sweet potato belong? The sweet potato is a member of the Solanaceae family. The sweet potato is a tuber and is the 7th most important food crop in the world.
- Which is healthier, the sweet potato or the regular potato? Unlike the ‘regular’ potato, the sweet potato contains inulin. Inulin is digested more slowly than starch and is therefore better for diabetics. However, sweet potatoes contain significantly more natural sugars. Both also contain a healthy dose of carbohydrates and fibre. So both are healthy for their own reasons, it just depends on which you like better!
