You may have heard of snickerdoodles. A deliciously simple American cookie that is soft on the inside and has a thin crispy edge and a cinnamon sugar coating. The flavour is mild, almost creamy with a hint of cinnamon. You should really try homemade snickerdoodle cookies!
Snickerdoodles, a classic American cookie
This cookie is a timeless classic when it comes to American cookies. Snickerdoodles are also known as the cookie you don’t have to leave the house to make, because most people just have these ingredients in their kitchen. All the more reason to make this easy snickerdoodle recipe.
But what makes this cookie so special? For me, at least, it’s the texture – deliciously soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, thanks to the cinnamon sugar mixture. It practically melts in your mouth…. We know this combination of soft and crunchy from chocolate chip cookies, again thanks to the Americans. This might be my new favorite cookie!

Best snickerdoodle recipe
The name ‘snickerdoodle’ sounds a bit silly and playful, but it is actually related to a German delicacy called ‘schneckennudel’. They remind me of cinnamon rolls or Zeeuwse bolussen and were brought over as a traditional dish by the many German immigrants who settled in America, particularly Pennsylvania, between the 17th and 19th centuries.
Although snickerdoodle and schneckennudel are not the same thing, many believe that one is based on the other and that the name is a derivative of the German language. Today, the snickerdoodle is considered to be truly American.
