Smashburger, an incredibly easy burger to make, very quick to cook and the ultimate comfort food. Sometimes you just want a really good burger: well, I have one for you!

Nice crispy smash burgers

I seriously doubted whether I should share the recipe for this smashburger with you. It’s so incredibly easy to make, but after serving it several times in one month because it was so good, I didn’t want to keep it from you. These are thinner style burgers that don’t need much to taste this good.

It’s quite similar flavor wise to these famous Big Mac wraps. They are both very nostalgic, easy and delicious. So here you go, an incredibly easy recipe for the best smash burgers!

Smash burger

What does it take to make a smashburger?

It doesn’t take much to make a classic burger. And some ingredients you can either buy or make yourself. Of course, it tastes best when you make it yourself, but it is just as good when you buy it! Here are the ingredients

  • Hamburger buns, ready made or make your own.
  • Caramelized onions, you can make your own or store bought and you could use fried onions, but they won’t have the same flavour.
  • Big Mac Sauce, this special sauce is super easy to make and insanely delicious. Of course you can buy it in the grocery store or make a different burger sauce to put on the smashburger.

Build you burger

Once you have all the ingredients ready, it’s time to make the smash burger. And that is really, super simple. You make balls of minced meat, put them in a hot pan or on the grill and then press them down well with a spatula or burger press.

By flattening them, the burger will fry in its own fat giving you a crispy crust and a tender, juicy burger inside. Sounds good right? Add some melted cheese on top and stack the buns with two burgers (when we do it, we do it right), sauce, onions, some lettuce and that’s it.

Ingredients

4 people
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 600 gram minced meat
  • 8 slices cheddar
  • Big Mac sauce or other burger sauce
  • caramelized onions
  • lettuce
  • butter, onion powder, salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Frying pan or grill
  • Parchment paper
  • Burgerpress

INSTRUCTIONS (how to make this recipe):

  • Brush the burger buns with a little butter and grill the inside briefly to make them slightly crispy.
  • Spread a little Big Mac or burger sauce on the bottom of the buns.
  • Then divide the minced meat into 8 equal balls of about 75-80 grams each.
  • Heat a flat-top grill or frying pan without oil.
  • Take a ball of minced meat and place it in the hot pan. Put a piece of parchment paper on top and ‘squash’ it flat with the pan or a hamburger press. Feel free to press a bit hard.
  • Sprinkle the unbaked side with onion powder, pepper and salt to taste. Fry until one side is cooked, then turn and season the cooked side in the same way. Fry the burger until cooked through, then top with a slice of cheddar and allow the cheese to melt.
  • Repeat until all the meat is used up – you can usually fry several at once, depending on the size of your grill or pan.
  • Place the fried burgers on the bottom of the burger buns, putting 2 fried burgers on each bun. Top with caramelized onions, lettuce and a little extra sauce to taste. Enjoy!
