This is THE homemade apple turnovers recipe, a real classic and so easy to make! Today I’m sharing my favorite sweet Dutch recipe with you. Honestly, it’s a shame I didn’t have it on the blog before, but it’s finally here….
Easy apple turnover recipe
When you have been sharing recipes for almost 10 years, it can happen that you think you have already shared a certain recipe, but you have not. This happened to me the other day when I was sure that I had already shared my easy apple turnovers recipe on my Dutch website. But it turned out that I had not. What a shame! Because it is so easy to make, so delicious and super quick.

Make your own apple turnovers
It is made from puff pastry and has an apple filling with a cinnamon sugar mixture. It has a distinctive triangular shape and is sprinkled with extra sugar before baking. You can vary the filling for the apple turnovers; I will tell you more about this later. To make sure your apple turnovers steal the show this autumn, here are some great tips.
What apples do I use?
It is best to use a firm, crisp apple for the apple turnover filling, such as Honeycrips or Golden Delicious, but I would also recommend Pink Lady or even Bramleys or Granny Smith for a slightly less sweet filling. Of course, you can also use a combination of apples or whatever apples you have collected while apple picking for example 😉 .
Can I reheat my turnovers?
Of course, they are best when they come fresh out of the oven, maybe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream? But, if you want to reheat pre-baked apple turnovers, here’s the best way to do it. Place them on a baking sheet with parchment paper and let them crisp up in a pre-heated oven at 200 degrees Celsius / 390 Fahrenheit for 5 minutes with top and bottom heat. This will turn them perfectly crispy!

Making easy apple turnovers
Of course, apples are delicious on their own, but I think they taste best when baked into a sweet treat. Just like my apple sheet cake, apples get to shine in these sweet apple turnovers. I used store-bought puff pastry in this recipe, which works just fine. Another great recipe with flaky pastry are these Danish pastries, sooo good and very easy to make!
Apple filling
You can combine apples with many different flavors. For example, instead of cinnamon, you can add some pumpkin spice or a little cardamom. Dried fruit, such as sultanas, can also be added to the apple filling and don’t forget to dust them with a little powdered sugar before devouring! There is plenty of room for your own culinary creativity, but for now we are going to make these easy apple turnovers!
