Easy Chicken Gyros Recipe
This recipe for homemade gyros is so incredibly simple that there’s really no reason not to give it a try 😉 . Deliciously tender chicken thigh fillets with spices, freshly baked Greek pita bread, and of course tzatziki. A delicious weeknight meal and the perfect comfort food to kick off the weekend, so it’s always a good choice!
Gyros Ingredients
To make this amazing gyros recipe yourself, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Chicken, I like to use boneless and skinless chicken thighs
- Spices, a classic Greek style mix of smoked paprika, cumin, oregano and onion powder
- Marinate, the chicken is marinated in the spice mix, garlic, yogurt, honey and lemon juice for and extra juicy and flavorful gyros

Chicken Gyros with Flatbread
I prefer to serve this chicken gyros with homemade flatbread, but it’s also very tasty with Greek pita. And of course, a classic Greek salad is a must. That way, you have a delicious, complete meal packed with flavor, ideal for the whole family.
Making Gyros from Scratch
In addition to marinating the chicken thigh fillet in a delicious blend of spices, you also let it marinate in some yogurt and garlic. This makes the chicken full of flavor and nice and tender. Since there’s yogurt in the marinade, I naturally serve tzatziki on the side as well. Hungry yet? Great, let’s get cooking!

For the best flavor and texture, marinate your chicken for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours in the refrigerator.
How long do leftovers last?
Cooked gyros can be kept in a container in the fridge for 3 – 4 days.
