Sweet and crumbly fig tart, now that the fig season is coming to an end, I wanted to make something really delicious with figs. Well, I can tell you that I succeeded. This fig tart is a keeper!
Delicious French fig tart
It turned out to be a delicious little tart with a crispy bottom, an almond cream (or frangipane) filling, and those delicious sweet fresh figs on top. This fig tart is truly blissful and a great way to celebrate autumn! I am lucky enough to have a fig tree in my garden, so I obviously like to use my own homegrown juicy figs which makes it even more enjoyable to bake and eat this tart!

Fig season
Figs are truly a seasonal fruit, and while they are often available year-round, the official season for figs is from August until October. And if you have your own fig tree or bush in the garden, you can just pick the fruit for as long as they grow and make some delicious treats. Another lovely seasonal French dessert is this peach galette. Definitely worth a try!

Fresh figs from your own garden
I have been eating figs from my own garden for years. In our previous house we had a small fig tree for a long time and now in our new house we have a big tree. It’s a little overgrown because it hasn’t been pruned in a long time – we’ll change that during the pruning season to keep it nice and healthy.
This year we had quite a few figs growing on the tree for the little birds to snack on. It’s really about the dynamics of letting them ripen well so that the ripe figs are honey sweet, but don’t pick them too late because then the birds will be ahead of you. But oh well, a little sharing can’t hurt and now look how beautiful they are. Slightly sweet, full of flavor, perfect for baking fruit tarts!

Baking a simple fig tart
And I am so glad I made this fig tart, because it became a huge success here at home! The crisp crust is filled with this delicious frangipane which is made from ground almonds or almond flour and absolutely delicious. And although it may sound complicated, it is really very easy to make. You can compare it to a kind of luxurious almond paste. It really is a delicate dessert to feast on with a perfect balance of flavors and textures and not difficult to make at all. Enjoy!
