Creamy mushroom sauce, this delicious mushroom sauce is perfect with cheese, potatoes, vegetables, pasta or just to eat with a piece of bread on the side, it’s that good! I’ll tell you how easy it is to make.
Homemade mushroom sauce
This is a classic recipe for creamy mushroom sauce with some simple ingredients. I use my favorite mushrooms, heavy cream, fresh herbs, vegetable broth and some salt and black pepper. I think it is an ideal sauce for a festive meal, but it is also perfect to make yourself and eat with a tasty pasta or some meat, vegetables and crispy potatoes.

Make your own creamy mushroom sauce
Sure, it’s ideal that you can buy basic sauces like a mushroom cream sauce ready-made, but once you find out how delicious and easy this homemade version is, you won’t want anything else. I promise you that!
I use butter and flour for a nice thick and creamy sauce, just like you use a roux to thicken a sauce, and some heavy cream. Of course, you can add cognac or wine to the sauce between steps 1 and 2, but this recipe is naturally alcohol-free.

Easy mushroom sauce recipe
This is my version of a creamy mushroom sauce recipe, but as you may already know, there are many variations. For example, I use fresh mushrooms such as cantharelles, shiitake, chestnut mushrooms and oyster mushrooms with a mushroom or vegetable stock to get that lovely mushroom flavor. You can use whatever mushrooms or stock you prefer. Let’s get cooking!

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp butter
- ½ onion (chopped)
- 250 grams mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 tbsp all purpose flour
- 250 ml stock (mushroom or vegetable)
- 100 ml heavy cream
- fresh herbs, salt and black pepper
Equipment
- Small saucepan
INSTRUCTIONS (how to make this recipe):
- Melt the butter in a saucepan. Sauté the onion and add the mushrooms.
- Add the flour and fry briefly.
- Add the stock and heavy cream, if you want to use (fresh) herbs you can add them now.
- Reduce the sauce to the desired thickness and season with salt and pepper. Enjoy!
