Ingredients

6 pieces
  • 125 ml lukewarm water
  • 7 gram dry yeast
  • 75 ml milk (tepid)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 350 gram flour
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • olive oil and salt

Equipment

  • Food processor with dough hook
  • Big bowl
  • Large frying pan

INSTRUCTIONS (how to make this recipe):

  • Place the water, yeast, milk and sugar in the bowl of your food processor and leave to stand until it starts to foam.
  • Add the flour, 1 tbsp olive oil, oregano, garlic powder and onion powder.
  • Using the dough hook, knead to a smooth dough, adding 2 teaspoons of salt as you knead.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl, drizzle with a little olive oil, form into a ball and place in the bowl. Turn the dough so that it is covered with oil and cover the bowl.
  • Leave the dough to rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • Then divide the dough into 6 equal parts and form balls.
  • Take a heavy frying pan and heat it on a high heat without oil or fat.
  • Roll one of the balls into a thin circle and fry on both sides until light and golden brown.
  • Remove the pita from the pan, brush with a little olive oil and wrap in a clean tea towel to keep it soft and warm.
  • Repeat with the remaining balls and enjoy!
Good to know:
Storage tip: Greek pitas will stay fresh, soft and warm for several hours if you keep them well wrapped in the tea towel and cover them with aluminium foil if necessary. Unfortunately, as is always the case with home-baked bread, they won't keep much longer than that.
