Ingredients

4 people
  • 500 gram boneless chicken breast (cut into strips)
  • 2 tbsp shawarma spices (more or less - depending on how you like it)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (or more - depending on you like it)
  • 1 Turkish bread (or medium-sized pide)
  • garlic sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • grated cheese
  • lamb's lettuce (or other lettuce)
  • fresh vegetables of your choice
  • olive oil

Equipment

  • Frying pan

INSTRUCTIONS (how to make this recipe):

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius / 350 Fahrenheit with top and bottom heat.
  • Mix the shawarma spices with the chicken, adding a little olive oil and half of the onion. Mix well.
  • Add a little oil to a large frying pan and fry the remaining onion and garlic until golden brown. Add the chicken and fry over a medium heat until golden brown and cooked through.
  • For extra crispiness, heat the Turkish bread or pide in the oven for about 5 minutes (optional).
  • When the chicken is ready, cut the bread in half. Spread the garlic sauce on the bottom half and arrange the chicken on top. Sprinkle some grated cheese on top to taste and place the bottom half in the oven until the cheese begins to melt and bubble.
  • Meanwhile, spread the garlic sauce on the top half of the bread.
  • Remove the pide from the oven, top with lettuce and replace the top half. Cut the pide into generous pieces or wedges. Enjoy your meal!
